oatmeal

I’ve been trying to add variety to what the kids have for breakfast to the traditional rocks with honey and other sundry cereals.

They make exceptions for croissant breakfast sandwiches (eggs, cheese, bacon), but generally don’t like like the diversity.

One recent recipe that has worked alright has been spiced oatmeal. Generally I choose a fruit (bananas and apples work great), then add spices. Today specifically I prepared irish oats (water, oats, butter, spices (cinnamon, nutmet, cardamom). Then in a separate pan I melted butter, added diced apples, spices, and a splash of bourbon. When the oats had mostly cooked I added the fruit mix, then served.

Lincoln was crazy about it.
